St. Nicolai (Bad Blankenburg)
The Protestant town church St. Nikolai is located in the town of Bad Blankenburg in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .
location
The church is located on the east side of the market in the valley of the Rinne and Schwarza below Greifenstein Castle . The wooded hills of the Thuringian Forest begin to the south after the city limits .
history
In 1385 the construction of the town church began. It is carved on the church tower . The church burned down in 1744 and was rebuilt from 1749. In 1794 the rebuilt and partly newly built church was consecrated. In 1976 a restoration took place under the social conditions at the time.
building
The square three-storey tower with its tail dome houses three bells from the years 1758/59 by the Rudolstadt master Johann Mayer. The apse and sacristy were added in 1886. The wooden barrel vault of the hall is plastered. The upper of the two gallery floors houses the organ of the Wagner brothers from Schmiedefeld from 1753 with 21 stops on two manuals and pedal on the west wall . The altar cross from 1500 comes from the Heidecksburg in Rudolstadt.
