The Schwarza is an approximately 13 km long tributary of the Ilm in the Weimarer Land .

course

It rises on the northern slope of the Kottenhainer Höhe east of Neudörnfeld at an altitude of about 435 meters. In a westerly direction it flows through Neudörnfeld, turns north and flows through Rottdorf. Turning again to the west, the Schwarza touches the urban area of Blankenhain , which it flows through south of the old town. The Schwarza then flows through the town of the same name, Schwarza . Before it joins the Ilm from the right in Tannroda , the small river offers a picturesque sight, while it meanders the way from Thangelstedt to Tannroda. The mouth is around 285 meters above sea level and was monitored from Tannroda Castle in the Middle Ages . In the Schwarzatal a trade route ran from Kranichfeld to Jena , which today is followed by the state road 1060 from Tannroda to Magdala along the Schwarzatal.

Origin of name

The name of hergleitet is old- and Middle High German swarz (black). The reason for the naming is unknown. But it could refer to the color of the stream as well as the darkness of the dense forests along the stream.
