The Protestant Church of St. Nicolai is located in the Brotterode district of the city of Brotterode-Trusetal in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district in Thuringia .

history

1364 was the holy Nicholas consecrated church in a document called the first time. It burned down in 1428. In 1523 a new stone building was built on the same site, which had to make way for a larger baroque church from 1778 to 1779 . With double galleries , it offered seating for 1200 people.

On July 10, 1895, almost all of Brotterode and the church burned down. Construction of the new church in neo-Gothic style began with the first groundbreaking on September 30, 1898. The church was inaugurated on July 10, 1900. 136,000 gold marks were spent. The sandstone church offers 900 seats. The interior is made of spruce wood and the windows are glazed with lead: in the middle the inviting Christ in the red robe of love. To the left of it Peter in a blue-violet robe (stands for faith), and to the right Paul in a green robe (stands for hope).

Three bronze bells from the bell foundry in Apolda hang in the church tower . The organ was created in 1901 by the organ builder Rühlmann from Zörbig and restored in 1999 by Waldkircher Orgelbau Jäger & Brommer .
