The Catholic parish church of St. Pankratius is a listed church building in Südkirchen , a district of Nordkirchen in the Coesfeld district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The parish was founded from 1022 to 1023. The three-bay hall church was built from 1691 to 1694 with the support of Prince-Bishop Friedrich Christian von Plettenberg in Bruchstein with a 5/8 end . The west tower is essentially Romanesque. From 1965 to 1966, Bernhard Kösters and Herbert Balke added a large church building to the north. The exterior is structured by buttresses and two and three-lane windows with simple tracery . Ribbed vaults were drawn into the very short yokes . The heavily restored coat of arms window of the prince-bishop is marked 1694.

Furnishing

  • The wooden high altar was made in the first half of the 18th century.
  • The crucifixion dates from the end of the 19th century.
  • The wooden side altar shows a painting by Anton Joseph Stratmann depicting Maria Immaculata .
  • The holy figures of Lambertus and Nepomuk were created around 1785.
  • In the extract there is a figure of St. Joseph from the end of the 19th century
  • The wooden pulpit was built in at the beginning of the 19th century.
  • The organ case was built around 1780 by a member of the Heilmann family from Herbern.
  • In the new building there is a late Romanesque font of the Bentheim type , it dates from the second quarter of the 13th century.
  • The stone Anna selbdritt was created around 1540 by Johann Brabender .
  • In the rectory there is a high quality wooden figure of Celinus from around 1500.
  • The four bronze bells ring out in e ', g', a 'and h' and were cast by Petit & Edelbrock in Gescher in 1949.
