The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Peter is a Gothic brick church in the Huisberden district of Bedburg-Hau in the Kleve district in North Rhine-Westphalia . It belongs to the parish of St. Johannes in Bedburg-Hau in the Kleve deanery of the Münster diocese .

History and architecture

The church, first mentioned in 1290, was originally a separate church of the Corbie Abbey on the Somme and has served as a parish church since 1307. The existing building is a single-nave, cross-rib vaulted brick building from the end of the 14th century with a built-in tower projecting into the west facade in the manner of a risalit and the choir made of a yoke with a five- eighth end, which was added at the beginning of the 15th century and slightly higher than the nave . An extensive restoration took place in the 19th century. The choir is flanked on the north side by the Gothic sacristy and on the south side by the side choir, which was added in 1902.

Furnishing

On the high altar is a wooden, darkly stained altar cross from the beginning of the 16th century on a clod base with a skull. A neo-Gothic figure of Maria Magdalena is arranged at the feet of the crucified. The altar in the southern side choir, with a neo-Gothic canteen and a Baroque essay from 1695, shows a canvas painting of the Assumption of Mary according to Rubens . The neo-Gothic carved altar consists of a table, predella , tabernacle and a carved shrine.

The octagonal sandstone font from the end of the 15th century is related to the fonts in Ginderich and Dornick . It is decorated with tracery and four rustic reliefs with the creation of Eve, the circumcision of Christ , the baptism of Christ and the crucifixion. The pulpit from 1653 shows the decorative forms of the late Renaissance. On the north wall of the choir is a wooden, life-size, dark-stained crucifixion group from 1510 on a clod base with the skeleton of Adam.

A wooden group of figures depicting the Instruction of Mary consists of an enthroned St. Anne from the 16th century and a little holy virgin. It was created in Cologne around 1330/1340 and was later given a new version. Another newly framed wooden figure of Saint Anthony was created around 1510/1520. A pair of candlesticks are from the beginning of the 16th century.

The oldest of the three bells in the church bears the inscription: “I pray to Mary, to whom I call to glory God. Johann and Franz von Trier, father and son, watered me in 1613. "
