St. Peter is a Catholic parish church in Neuburg an der Donau in the Bavarian diocese of Augsburg .

Building history

St. Peter is the oldest parish church in Neuburg and is mentioned for the first time in the Pappenheimer Urbar from 1214/19. The collapse of the dilapidated tower with damage to the nave on May 21, 1641 caused a new building, nothing of the previous church remained. Reconstruction began on July 10, 1641 under the direction of the Graubünden master builder Johann Serro . The new building was consecrated on November 11, 1646, the choir was not given its present form until 1671 and was brought under one roof with the nave, which was raised at the same time. After the roof was damaged, major repairs were carried out on January 31, 1703 ( War of the Spanish Succession ), 1772 (covering the tower hood) and 1853/54 (restoration of the interior). In 1765 the church was rededicated, probably because of the partial refurbishment including the high altar.
