The Roman Catholic branch church St. Peter and Paul is a baroque hall church in the Faistenhaar district of Brunnthal in the Upper Bavarian district of Munich . It belongs to the parish association Höhenkirchen in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

History and architecture

The church was first mentioned in 1315. The current building was rebuilt from 1683 on the basis of an older church, the remains of which may still be preserved on the tower ground floor, in the manner of Johann Mayr the Elder from Aibling and consecrated in 1735. The sacristy was built in 1750. A renovation took place in the years 1985–1988. In 2011 a restoration of the church was necessary due to plaster damage.

The church is a four-bay hall building with a retracted choir closing on three sides, as well as a north tower, which is closed with an octagonal structure and a voluminous onion dome. The sacristy with a gable roof and gable is attached to the apex of the choir . On the outside, the nave is divided by arched niches between Tuscan pilasters and high arched windows, above which oval niches are arranged. The tower is divided by arched and rectangular fields. Inside, the choir and the nave are closed off by flat barrel vaults with stitch caps over a pilaster structure.

Furnishing

The high altar dates from 1720/1730 and has an oil painting by Gustav Kitzinger from 1874 showing the church patron before the coronation of Mary. The remaining paintings with depictions of St. Bartholomew , St. Pope Sylvester and St. Sebastian are of baroque origin.

The north side altar from around 1690/1700 is decorated with carved figures of Our Lady , flanked by figures of Pope Saint Sylvester and a bishop with a knife from the 17th century. The south side altar from around 1720 was later changed and provided with a figure of St. Korbinian from the 17th century, which was formerly accompanied on the left by a figure of St. John Evangelista . Like the figures in the altarpiece (Saints Florian , Sebastian and Laurentius ), it dates from the first half of the 16th century.

Half-length figures of Saints Peter and Paul from the first half of the 18th century stand on consoles in the choir . The pulpit was created around 1686 and was moved here from Arget in 1789 . A votive plaque of the Perlach people with pilgrimage for New Year's Eve dates from 1709. On the lower gallery parapet there are high baroque images of the apostles from around 1683.
