history

The church is considered to be the oldest in the area. The previous building was probably the church of the Cistercian monastery , which was first mentioned in a document in 1244. According to a bishop's charter dated August 11, 1281, the church, built between 1248 and 1283, was consecrated to Saints Peter and Paul .

The current hall construction dates back to 1361. Between 1514 and 1517 the last abbess had a church tower built over the Papierbach, a special feature of the Oberweimar church to this day.

After the dissolution of the monastery in 1525, the church became a Protestant parish church and a Protestant pastor took over the community.

From 1733, state master builder Johann Adolph Richter had the mansard roof , the wooden barrel vault and the baroque furnishings renewed. In 1898 the church was renovated to give the chancel frescoes of St. Ursula and Antony uncovered, which are visible today.

Between 1940 and 1983 to 1985 the church roof was covered. In 1902, 1929 and 1958 the bells were changed. In 1985, a consecration cross was uncovered during a renovation on the choir wall . The last renovation was in 2004.
