The Romanesque tower rises centrally from the building and is the oldest part of the building. On the east side of the tower there used to be an apse , which was replaced by a choir . The windows and portals of the nave were rebuilt in baroque style. The church tower was given a new hood and a staircase was added on the south side.

In earlier times the town of Obhausen was divided into three parts. In order to be able to distinguish between the three Obhausen, the patronage was added to the respective Obhausen as part of the name. The Church of St. Johannis in Obhausen Petri stood with that .
