The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Petrus is located in Mackenrode , a district of the Hohenstein community in the Nordhausen district in Thuringia . The parish Mackenrode belongs to the parish area Trebra in Kirchenkreis Südharz the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The simple hall church was built from rubble stones with corner stones in 1792 and restored after a fire in 1877. To the west it has a tall church tower on a square floor plan , which is covered with a pointed octagonal slate-roofed helmet . The partially plastered nave is covered with a gable roof. The interior has galleries on three sides and an open roof structure . The church furnishings include a pulpit altar from the 19th century. The organ with nine registers , divided into two manuals and a pedal , was built by Robert Knauf & Sohn in 1877 and restored by Georg Kiessling & Sons in 1926. In 1975 it was restored again by Friedrich Löbling.
