St. Petrus and Paulus is a listed Protestant church in the Oberschmon district of the Schmon town of Querfurt in Saxony-Anhalt .

In the local register of monuments it is listed as a monument under registration number 094 16964 . Today it bears the name of St. Peter and Paul .

history

The church on Glockenberg , consecrated to Saints Simon Petrus and Paulus von Tarsus , is a parish church mentioned in 1400 under the Easter ban of the Halberstadt diocese . Despite its proximity to the archpriest's seat in Lobersleben, it belonged to the archpriest's seat in Reinsdorf an der Unstrut . According to the roof flag of the tower, today's classicistic appearance was created in 1831. In the church, on the other hand, the year 1832 is on the floor plate in the chancel.

The church tower houses three bells , which were brought to the bell cemetery in Hamburg-Veddel during the turmoil of World War II, to be melted down and used for weapons production. It is thanks to a pastor who was close to the community that the bells could be saved and brought back to Oberschmon.

The church was restored during the time of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). As a result of the restoration, the church stalls on the left and right of the altar were removed and filled with concrete. To the right of the altar, the date “08/27/1981” testifies to this revision.

In the church, two large galleries provide additional seating and standing space in addition to the fixed seating in the main nave. The functioning organ is located on the first gallery. This has been supplied electrically with air for organ playing since the middle of the 20th century. The manual air supply from the 19th century is still clearly visible.

Another special feature of the village church is the mechanical clockwork of the church tower clock .

The bell tower has also been home to an actively used nesting site for kestrels for two years .
