Schmon has been part of the city of Querfurt in the Saale district in Saxony-Anhalt since January 1st, 2004 . It consists of the districts Hermannseck , Oberschmon and Niederschmon .
Geographical location
Schmon is located on the Querfurt Platte in the Saale-Unstrut-Triasland Nature Park . It spreads with its districts Hermannseck, Oberschmon and Niederschmon along the Schmoner Bach - with the Schmon reservoir located between Hermannseck and Oberschmon - a left tributary of the Unstrut .
history
In a register of the tithe of the Hersfeld monastery , which was created between 881 and 899, Schmon is mentioned for the first time in a document as the place where Smean im Friesenfeld has to be titled . The Schmon districts of Ober- and Niederschmon belonged to the Wettin , later Electoral Saxon office of Freyburg until 1815 . The decisions of the Congress of Vienna they came to Prussia and were 1,816 county Querfurt in the administrative district of Merseburg of Saxony Province allocated to which they belonged to the 1944th
On July 1, 1950, the communities Niederschmon and Oberschmon merged to form the new community Schmon.
There is a school in Niederschmon that was a secondary school until 2003. The Vitzenburg primary school, which existed until 2003, has merged with the Ziegelroda primary school and is now based in Schmon. The kindergarten, which also runs the after-school care center, is located in the lower part of Niederschmon.
Economy and Infrastructure
The Röblingen am See – Vitzenburg railway with a train station in Niederschmon, opened in 1904, was shut down in 2003.
