The St. Salvator Church is the most important sight in Waltersdorf, Thuringia (part of the town of Weißensee ) in the Sömmerda district . It belongs to the parish area Weißensee in the parish of Eisleben-Sömmerda of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

location

The church stands on the eastern edge of the village and forms the optical end of the village street, which runs gently from west to east. The baroque church stands in the axis to the village street. It was built as a square central building with the participation of the Teutonic Order Commander , Marschall von Bieberstein , from 1711 to 1713.

history

In 1606, the Komtur von Steinhausen (1591–1611 on the Kommende in Griefstedt in office) gave the Waltersdorfer parish a resalable interest of 5 guilders, which the council to Greußen had to pay on Epiphany . On September 21 and 22, 1608, a visitation took place in the parishes of Scherndorf , Waltersdorf and Riethgen by Pastor Thielemann from Leubingen as the representative of the superintendent at Weißensee . In 1611 Philipp von Rehen bequeathed 50 thalers to the church in Waltersdorf because of the Coming Griefstedt. Presumably there was a tax obligation of Mr. Philipp von Rehen towards the comer, which now had to be paid to the church. The Reformation Festival in October 1617 was initiated in the most dignified manner by the pastors of Riethchen and Waltersdorf, Magister Peter Störr and Magister Franz Fischer and the then completely Lutheran population of the Thuringian district in the Weißensee district was encouraged in all directions. More than 100 people died in the religious villages of Scherndorf and Waltersdorf in 1625, in the middle of the Thirty Years' War, and the previous Scherndörfer schoolmaster Conrad Keßler was appointed pastor to Waltersdorf. Pastor Thielemann died in 1649. Before him were Johann Gottlieb Schlegel and after this Valentin Schultheiss pastors of Scherndorf and Waltersdorf. In 1684 Adam Cuno was a schoolmaster in Waltersdorf, he came to Battgendorf in the same year . In 1689 Georg Sebastian Müller was named as a schoolmaster in Waltersdorf, and at the beginning of the 18th century a Magister Thilemann appeared as a pastor in Waltersdorf.

In 1711 the church was built after the old, heavily damaged St. Andrew's Church was torn down, and on June 19, 1711 the foundation stone was laid on the northeast corner of the building. The pastor at that time was M. Johann Christian Köhler. The inauguration took place on November 1st, 1713 in the presence of many guests from near and far.

Furnishing

The uniqueness of the church is evident in the rare architectural style and the rich decoration of the ceiling with stucco elements . The initials and the year of inauguration in 1713 can also be found here. The classicist font from around 1837 was probably made from Stadtilm by the sculptor Elle . There are similar baptismal frames in Schillingstedt and Büchel .

The tower houses two bells, of which a large bell from 1788 was cast by the Ulrich Brothers from Apolda . It is said to have been cast from a bell with the year 1308 that cracked in 1785. The smaller bell with the year 1921 is adorned with a coat of arms, probably that of the Ulrich Bell Foundry.

graveyard

Cemetery oak

The cemetery of the village ( Lage ), once located to the east of the church, is now on the western edge of the village, on the road to the Thomas-Müntzer-Siedlung (formerly Commandery Griefstedt). Apart from the well-tended graves, two particularly thick, probably old oaks are noteworthy, one of which (monument protection sign) is designated as a natural monument .
