Leubingen has been part of the town of Sömmerda in the Thuringian district of Sömmerda since 1994 and had 914 inhabitants in July 2010.

Leubingen lies at an altitude of about 135 m above sea level and is centrally located in the Thuringian Basin . The land area extends over an area of ​​144 km². The village is 6 km north of Sömmerda and 4 km west of Kölleda. The Lossa River flows into the Unstrut near Leubingen . Adjacent to the south is the Leubing gravel pit.

history

Around 1940 BC The early Bronze Age "Prince of Leubingen" was buried in a splendid grave near today's location . The oldest known document from the year 891, with which the noble UNARCH donated Leubingen to the Fulda monastery , is preserved.

In 1528 Hans von Werthern bought the place Leubingen and the two manors in it from Count Adam von Beichlingen . In 1565 the establishment of a one-class boys' school was mentioned. The Swedish King Gustav Adolf camped with his army in the Leubinger Flur in 1631. After the Thirty Years War (1618–48) only nine families lived in the village. Until 1815 Leubingen belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office Eckartsberga . The decisions of the Congress of Vienna the place to Prussia came only in 1816 the district Eckartsberga in the administrative district of Merseburg of the Province of Saxony assigned to which he belonged until 1944th

In 1867, the chief officer Scherre founded the local volunteer fire brigade. A peace oak was planted in front of the “Goldener Löwe” inn in 1872. In 1907 the war memorial was inaugurated in 1870/71. Leubingen was connected to the electrical power supply in 1911. The sports club was founded in 1924.

After the Second World War, the land reform took place in 1945 , and in 1954 the LPG was founded . In 1956 the construction of the aqueduct began. The place Stödten was incorporated into the municipality of Leubingen in 1965. In 1994 Leubingen was incorporated into Sömmerda. Leubingen was hit by the flood of the century in 2002/03 . In 2006 the new name of the district was set as "Leubingen / Stödten". In 2010 the first construction phase of the new Leubingen district fire station was completed and the new vehicle hall was inaugurated.

In 2010 archaeologists discovered 1500 year old group of graves near the grave mound of the prince - cavalry warriors of Leubingen : riders from the time of the Thuringian migrations with sword, spear, shield and richly decorated grave supplements.

Local museum

The association Heimatfreunde Leubingen eV, founded in 1994, made the decision to create a museum for the community. The idea found support from the city of Sömmerda, and on June 15, 1995 the opening of the Heimatstube took place in the premises of the old Leubing rectory (built in 1715). Active members of the association as well as interested citizens made the exhibits available and helped with the design. The individual rooms of the local history museum are predominantly equipped with historical exhibits from village life as well as a replica of the Bronze Age prince's grave:

Leubing Hill Festival

Every two years the hill festival with the headless rider is celebrated on the Leubingen Fürstenhügel between the districts of Leubingen and Stödten at the solstice. In 2010 the ten-year anniversary party of the Leubinger Heimatverein eV took place.

  • Former Manor of the von Werthern family : The manor, located at what is now Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse at the corner of Leubinger Markt, has developed into an agricultural business with 381 hectares ( including the Stödten manor ) since the town was bought by Hans von Werthern in 1528 . The manor's buildings survived the turmoil after the war as well as the GDR era and survived into the 21st century. It was not until 2014 that the mansion that characterizes the town was torn down. It was a plastered two-storey baroque building with a crooked hip roof and bat dormers . The basement was built from field stones, the second floor in half-timbered construction. Today only the dilapidated barns of the estate remain.

The community has a train station on the Sangerhausen – Erfurt railway line, which was completed in 1881 .

On September 3, 2015, the last construction phase of the BAB 71 between Schweinfurt and Sangerhausen was approved by the Thuringian Minister for Infrastructure and Agriculture Birgit Keller . In the course of the expansion, a junction was created east of Leubingen. The "Leubinger Fürstenhügel" motorway service station at the foot of the Fürtsenhügel was built to the south-east of Leubingen.

Connected by a good cycle path, Leubingen is only about 1 km away from the Unstrut cycle path .
