St. Stephan

The Filialkirche St. Stephan is a baroque church in Stephansried in Upper Swabia , the birthplace of Sebastian Kneipp . A saddle roof tower rises on the west gable of the church built in 1687. The single nave nave has a flat barrel vault . There is a vestibule under the gallery on the west wall. The choir has a three-sided end and a groin vault . The painting Stoning of St. Stephen is by Johann Friedrich Sichelbein , who painted it in 1687. The painting is based on a Rembrandt etching from 1625, which Sichelbein took over the wrong way round. Earlier sources suspect that the picture was taken in 1891. A wooden Pietà was created between 1550 and 1560. The vestibule contains a descent from the cross with several figures from the second half of the 18th century.
