The St. Stephanus Church is the Protestant church of Helbra ( Verbandsgemeinde Mansfelder Grund-Helbra ) in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt . It is under monument protection and is entered in the monument register with registration number 094 08178 as a monument .

The church is located in the center of Helbra and gives the surrounding streets Hinter der Kirche and Kirchstraße the name.

History and architecture

The oldest components are preserved in the tower and are assigned to the Romanesque . The main building fabric comes from the late Gothic , the plaster and most of the window frames from the Baroque period , to which the south-western vestibule is also attributed. A building inscription refers to the year 1745.

Interior and outfit

In the years from 1767 to 1772 the interior was equipped with a wooden barrel and a double gallery. The gallery was reduced to one storey in the 1950s. The painting dates from 1906.

The pulpit altar dates from 1760, a sacrament niche from 1556, the baptismal font from 1512 and a wooden crucifix from the 17th century. The oldest piece of equipment is the Gothic bell from 1486. ​​There are also historical tombstones from the 16th and 17th centuries in and on the church .
