St. Thomas in Rederzhausen

St. Thomas in the Friedberg district of Rederzhausen , Bavaria , is a chapel that belongs to the Catholic parish of Ottmaring . The building is classified as a monument .

Building description

The chapel was built around 1698/99. It is a flat-roofed hall building with a retracted choir under a groin vault . There is an onion dome on the north side .

Furnishing

The figure of St. Leonhard in the right side altar and that of St. Thomas in the main altar are attributed to the sculptor Lorenz Luidl , who was born in Mering . These two figures originally come from St. Michael in Ottmaring. The other figures around 1700 also have references to Luidl. The crucifix with Mary on the eastern side of the nave was donated by the Ducrue family from Augsburg in the 19th century. The figure of Mary was created around 1700, the body of Christ in the late 18th century. The figure of St. Nepomuk on the west side comes from a chapel on the way from Rederzhausen to Friedberg, which was built in 1724 but was later demolished.

In 2012 a new popular altar was set up in St. Thomas.

history

The chapel was first mentioned on April 22, 1534; however, it is probably much older. The current building was built after the Thirty Years War . Presumably there are still remnants of the wall from the previous buildings. There are indications that the chapel was a station on the pilgrimage route to St. Leonhard in Inchenhofen . During a restoration in 1977/78, red chalk inscriptions from visitors and pilgrims were found under the gallery.
