The Trinity Church

The Protestant village church of St. Trinitatis is located in the upper village of Altengottern , a district of the municipality of Unstrut-Hainich in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .

history

The municipality of Altengottern developed from two settlement centers in the boggy or waterlogged area of the Unstrut lowlands into the lower and upper village. In 1539 the townspeople adopted the Evangelical Lutheran faith. Their first pastor was Johann Grießbach from Mühlhausen .

In 1641 the village and Altengottern Castle fell victim to the Thirty Years' War . Reconstruction and resettlement began in 1650. The Trinitatis Church emerged from the former Martinskirche and was destroyed in 1641. It was rebuilt from 1678 to 1684. The church was founded by the sons of Rudolf Levin. In 1682 the church was consecrated . In 1985 the church tower was renewed. The association for the reconstruction of the Trinity Church was then founded with the participation of the population .

After the political change

The square in front of the municipal administration and Trinity Church has been redesigned. The memorial to the fallen and missing victims of both world wars in the cemetery has been restored and inaugurated.
