Ortisei in Schönbach

The Catholic branch church St. Ulrich is a monument in Schönbach in the district of Aichach-Friedberg .

Ortisei is a simple, late Gothic hall building , the core of which dates back to the 15th century, with a retracted choir and a south-eastern gable roof tower. The church originally belonged to a property that was given to the St. Ulrich and Afra monastery by Emperor Heinrich II before 1024 . In 1472 the church was the subject of a legal dispute between the Fürstenfeld monastery and the parish of Hollenbach . There was probably a pilgrimage to the church even then . In 1580 St. Mark named as the church patron. At that time, the communities of Hollenbach, Inchenhofen , Bernbach, Alsmoos , Oberschneitbach and Igenhausen made a pilgrimage to Schönbach on St. Mark's Day to pray for good weather and a good harvest . The church was baroque in the 17th and 18th centuries . The high altar is from 1778 and was made by Johann Anton Wiest from Schrobenhausen . The original altarpiece , presumably by a local artist, showed St. Mark and in one detail three processions to the church. It was later represented by a Nazarene depiction of St. Ulrich , whose original patronage presumably came into effect again. The church and tower were renovated in 1969.
