The church of St. Viti at Vitusplatz 4 is one of the two Protestant village churches in the Erfurt district of Gispersleben . It is under the patronage of St. Vitus and today belongs to the Protestant church district of Erfurt . The building is a listed building .

history

The parish of Gispersleben-Viti was first mentioned in a document on March 27, 1319. Like the city of Erfurt, the place belonged to the diocese of Mainz . A Protestant pastor for the two parishes Kiliani and Viti can be proven in 1571.

In 1726 the church was comprehensively rebuilt, which shapes its appearance today with its furnishings. In 1853 the tower hood was renewed in its current form. In 1950 Gispersleben was incorporated into the city of Erfurt. In 1998, the Viti and Kiliani communities merged.

building

It is a simple hall building with a polygonal east end. Remnants of the medieval building fabric are still preserved in the outer walls and on the tower, which originally had a gable roof . The west tower has an onion dome with a high, two-story lantern. The interior is covered by a flattened wooden barrel. It contains a pulpit altar and a three-sided two-story gallery with an organ.

organ

The organ was built by Johann Georg Kummer from Dachwig around 1790 and is one of the few surviving organs by this organ builder. It received a multi-part organ brochure with carvings and vase acroteries after 1790. The instrument was repaired in 1830 by the Hesse organ workshop . Later repairs and changes were made in 1923 by Max Andreas and in 1982 by Herbert Löbling from Zimmersupra . Original parts were removed and replaced with components made from inferior materials. In addition, the pitch was changed. As a result of these measures and due to wear and tear, the playability of the organ suffered considerably over time. In a first construction phase in 2001, the wind turbine and the sound system were repaired, from 2003 to 2004 the extensive restoration was carried out by Jörg Dutschke from Salzwedel , during which the instrument was restored to its original condition as well as possible, the grown inventory but took into account. The organ was inaugurated again on September 26, 2004 with a concert by Sabine and Andreas Strobelt. She has the following disposition :
