Wilhelm Johann Albert von Tettau (born June 20, 1804 in Gut Tolks near Marienwerder (West Prussia) , † October 3, 1894 in Erfurt ) was a German administrative lawyer and historian.

Life

Tettau comes from the noble family of the Barons of Tettau . His parents were the higher regional court president and general landscape director Alexander Ernst von Tettau (* August 27, 1776 - April 1, 1831) and his wife the baron Auguste Karoline Franziska von Schleinitz (* June 17, 1784 - March 2, 1848). His brother Alfred Christoph (born January 26, 1810, † April 26, 1893) was a member of the German Reichstag.

After graduating from high school in Marienwerder , he studied law and political science at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin . He took part in seminars by Leopold von Ranke . In 1833 he became district administrator for the district of Conitz in the province of Prussia . 1836 was elected as a member of the provincial parliament of the province of Prussia . In 1847 he was appointed senior councilor and conductor to the government in Erfurt . His service anniversary was celebrated on December 15, 1875 with great sympathy from the population. Von Tettau wrote numerous historical and other scientific writings. Of particular importance is his inventory of monuments, a descriptive representation of the older architectural and art monuments of the city of Erfurt and the Erfurt district from 1890.

family

On June 7, 1835 he married Wilhelmine Frederike Freiin von Rosenberg (* April 24, 1817, † April 19, 1882). The marriage was divorced after 20 years on March 8, 1855 without children. On May 21, 1859 he married Adolfine Herrmann (* July 16, 1838). The couple had several children:
