Otto Freiherr von Tettau (born April 13, 1868 in Erfurt , † January 13, 1946 in Munich ) was a German lieutenant general and legal knight of the Order of St. John .

biography

Otto Wilhelm Anton Heinrich Freiherr von Tettau comes from the Tettau family . He was the son of the lawyer, senior government councilor and historian Wilhelm Johann Albert von Tettau . He attended the Prussian main cadet institute in Lichterfelde and the Glogau War School . In 1887 he was promoted to second lieutenant and in 1895 to prime lieutenant. In 1898 he was transferred to the General Staff and in 1901 he became Rittmeister of the 2nd Leib-Hussar Regiment . In 1904 he was transferred to the squadron chief in the Pomeranian Dragoon Regiment "von Wedel" No. 11 and in 1906 to the general staff of the 8th Division. In 1908 he was promoted to major and reassigned to the General Staff. In 1913 he became commander of the Royal Prussian Jäger Regiment on Horseback No. 7 in Trier and in 1914 was promoted to lieutenant colonel.

At the beginning of the First World War in 1914, Tettau led the Jägerregiment as part of the 16th Cavalry Brigade of the 3rd Cavalry Division on the Western Front as a commander. In the spring of 1915 the regiment was moved to the Eastern Front and used for security and reconnaissance services. Promoted to colonel in 1917. In 1918 he became commander of the 17th Landwehr Infantry Brigade and in December 1918 he was again commander of the Jäger Regiment on horseback.

After the First World War he was taken over as a colonel in the Reichsheer in 1919, in 1920 commander of the 11th (Prussian) cavalry regiment in Lüben and in 1921 major general . In 1921 he was appointed commander of the 1st Cavalry Division in Frankfurt an der Oder appointed and the end of April 1923 adopted . His successor was Major General Walther von Jagow . He was thereby given the character (title) as Lieutenant General .

He then lived with his family in Liegnitz in Silesia . His first marriage was to Elisabeth Countess von Stosch . The marriage resulted in three children.
