St. Wendelin is a Catholic chapel in the district of Hecheln in the municipality of Mühlingen in the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg in Germany .

history

Presumably there was a chapel in Hecheln before 1783. Out of gratitude that their cattle had been spared the foot-and-mouth disease that occurred at that time, the residents of Hecheln built the chapel and named it after St. Wendelin , who is considered the patron saint of shepherds , country people, farmers , day laborers and farm workers. The chapel was consecrated on January 30, 1797.

In 1879 the Mühlingen pastor noted on the occasion of a church visit that seven silent, holy masses should be held annually in the Hecheln branch chapel .

Thirty years later the building was in disrepair. In 1921 the building authority in Constance submitted plans and cost estimates for a new building for the chapel, which, however, were not carried out due to a lack of funds.

In 1936, the Stockach district office closed the building and requested that the chapel be demolished or properly repaired.

After further setbacks, the citizens of Hecheln began building in 1953: the old chapel was demolished in the summer of 1954 and the new building was erected from October 1955 to the end of 1957. A very simple rectangular room with a roof turret was created , which offers seating for around 50 believers.
