The St. Wendelinus Church is a Roman Catholic branch church of the Trier diocese in Bierfeld , a district of Nonnweiler in the St. Wendel district . It belongs to the parish of St. Hubertus in Nonnweiler.

history

Before today's branch church was built, there was already a small baroque chapel in Bierfeld, where Holy Mass was celebrated every week. Nevertheless, the residents of Bierfeld still had to go to the parish church in Nonnweiler for the Sunday masses until the inauguration of today's church in 1962.

Building description

The building is located on a slope in the center of Bierfeld village. The church building itself has a rectangular floor plan and is covered by a saddle roof that extends far down. The main corridor on the side is reached via a staircase that leads through the basement of the church tower. This was built on a rectangular floor plan in the style of brutalism with pure exposed concrete and completely perforated except for the bell chamber in the upper third. Windows are only located on the front sides of the church interior, whereby the large stained glass facade on the side opposite the altar is particularly noteworthy. It shows Christ as the judge of the world in an abstract, figurative language of forms, which is characteristic of the construction period of the church. To the north of the chancel there is a deep niche in which the organ and, on festive days, a choir can be found. The church does not have a gallery. There are also community rooms in the basement of the church.
