The church

The Protestant village church St. Wigberti is in Bilzingsleben in district Sömmerda in Thuringia and belongs to the parish area Heldrungen in Kirchenkreis Eisleben-Sömmerda the Evangelical Church in Central Germany . It is a registered cultural monument in the Sömmerda district.

history

The village church was built in 1512 and dedicated to St. Consecrated to Wigbert . The core of the tower base dates from before 1300. In 1885 the late medieval nave and the choir were torn down and replaced by a new building. The bell tower of the previous church was included in the neo-Gothic church building . The inauguration of the new church took place in 1889. Inadequate foundation of the choir resulted in deformations with wide cracks in the masonry. Parts of the church are therefore currently not accessible (as of 2018).

architecture

Buttresses are attached between the pressed pointed arched windows of the hall church with a polygonal east end . The painting in the hall took place some time after it was built, in the late 19th century. The equipment includes the altar , baptismal font , baptismal stand, lectern , pulpit , galleries and stalls , as well as the organ and harmonium . A memorial plaque to the victims of the wars is attached.
