St Catherine's
St Catherine’s is a villa in the Scottish town of Banff in the Council Area of Aberdeenshire . In 1972 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.
description
The two-story mansion stands at the confluence of St Catherine Street and Castle Street near Banff Castle . The building, erected around 1730, is stylistically reminiscent of the work of the Scottish architect Archibald Simpson .
The sober-looking, south-facing main facade along St Catherine Street is five axes wide. The exposed brickwork consists of large, gray sandstone blocks . On Mittelrisaliten a jump Doric portico forth. The wooden entrance portal is neatly ornamented. It closes with a decoratively designed, rectangular combat window . Simple, colossal pilasters run along the edges of the building . The rear facade is plastered with Harl with offset sandstone surrounds. The villa closes with a gently sloping, slate-roofed hipped roof with first standing chimneys.
