St Teilo's Church, Llandeloy is a disused church in the village of Llandeloy , Pembrokeshire in Wales . It was developed by Cadw in Grade II as Listed Building classified, and is supported by the Friends of Friendless Churches entertained.

history

The church was built from medieval ruins in 1926–1927 . The architect John Coates Carter from Cardiff was responsible for the planning . The building followed the style rules of the Arts and Crafts Movement , i.e. the use of the simplest building material available on site without attempting to copy the style of a period. After the church closed in 2002, it was taken over by the Friends of Friendless Churches in their care.

architecture

The building has a "modest exterior". St Teilo's is built of quarry stone , the roof is made of slate . At the western end there is a bell shed with a gable roof . The plan of the church consists of the nave and the chancel and a transept in the south. The window to the west is narrow. In the north wall of the nave there is an archway and a long window as an entrance. There are two square windows in the south wall. There is a single pointed arch window to the east . The transept has two long lancet windows facing south. All windows have coarse lining, no stone was used.

The interior is "beautiful and moving". The rood screen with its loft dominates the interior. The interior is a long and low room, the walls are bare. The crucifixion of Christ is carved into the front of the loft . A simple, three-sided pulpit is fitted in the corner between the rood screen and the north wall . A staircase in the north wall leads to the loft. The church pews are simple, with open backs. There are two stone baptismal fonts - one is made of ancient stones that were found during excavations before the church was rebuilt. The other is octagonal and stands on three levels. The altarpiece consists of rectangular wooden panels painted with gesso and tempera . The frame is lavishly carved. There is also a holy water font and a pair of slate piscina in the church . The stained glass in the east window and transept dates from 1926, the south glass windows of the nave were added around 1936.
