The Stade d'Angondjé is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the suburb of Angondjé of the Gabonese capital Libreville in the northwest of the country. The venue is also known as the Stade de l'Amitié Sino-Gabonaise ( German Stadium of Sino-Gabonese Friendship ) or just Stade de l'Amitié for short and was built especially for the 2012 African Football Championship in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea . The stadium hosted nine tournament games, including a semi-final and the final. A total of eight games, including the final, were played in the stadium at the 2017 African Cup of Nations.
history
After the symbolic laying of the foundation stone on the 30 hectare building plot by the Gabonese Sports Minister René Ndemezo'Obiang and the Deputy, Chinese Trade Minister Fu Ziying, construction started in April 2010. The sports and event facility built by Shanghai Construction offers visitors 40,000 seats. The construction project was financed by the Chinese government, the design and construction were also in Chinese hands. The Gabon only had to provide electricity and water supplies as well as transport links. Due to delays, the project had to be built in 20 months instead of 26 months as planned. After an inspection by the African association CAF in February 2011, there were considerations to award the games taking place in Gabon to another country because of the deficit.
The stadium's two 320-meter-long steel girder arches that span the roof membrane over the two-story main and opposite stands are the eye-catchers of the stadium . The lower spectator tier in the stadium is laid out very flat so that the stadium is almost open at the back of the gate. The venue was equipped with a large video display board and a drainage system. The plastic seats are in the national colors of Gabon. Up to 1,000 construction workers were involved in the work in order to be finished on time. The national teams of Gabon and Brazil played the first game in the approximately 30 billion XAF (over 45 million euros ) arena . The game on November 10, 2011 in front of 32,723 spectators ended with a 0-2 for the South Americans. The official inauguration of the new building took place on November 28, 2011 by President Ali-Ben Bongo Ondimba . This was followed by a game between the U20 teams of Gabon and China (2-2).
