history

The stadium on Clausstraße was built in the early twenties under the name Preußenplatz Clausstraße and from 1924 it served as the home of the Gauligist FC Preussen Chemnitz . The stadium, which could hold around 20,000 spectators and had no grandstands, also served as an alternative stadium for SG OrPo Chemnitz and VfB Chemnitz until 1945, but played only a subordinate role behind the Südkampfbahn and the stadium on Gellertstrasse .

After 1945, the stadium on Clausstrasse was inaugurated in front of 20,000 spectators in 1952 with the game Chemistry Karl-Marx-Stadt against the reigning GDR champions Turbine Halle (4: 2). The stadium served in the GDR League or GDR Oberliga of the fifties and sixties as the temporary home of SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt , which won victories against Dynamo Dresden and BSG Wismut Gera in Gablenz .

The last big backdrop was recorded by the system within the district league Karl-Marx-Stadt (1977/78) during the decisive promotion game to the GDR league between Motor Fritz Heckert Karl-Marx-Stadt and SG Sosa . At the beginning of the eighties, large parts of the stadium were demolished, so that today the facility only has a sports field character.

The facility is currently the home of the lower-class SpVgg. Blue-White Chemnitz .
