The Stadionul Steaua ( German  Steaua Stadium ) is a football stadium under construction in the Ghencea district of the Romanian capital Bucharest . It will be built on the site of the Stadionul Ghencea , inaugurated in 1974 , which was demolished in 2018. It will be the new home ground of CSA Steaua Bucharest .

history

On August 27, 2018, a farewell ceremony and a last, symbolic, game took place in the Stadionul Ghencea. The club's youth players competed against each other for ten minutes. The Stadionul Steaua was to serve as a training location for the 2020 European Football Championship. On September 1, 2018, fans were able to take souvenirs and souvenirs from the old stadium with them. This was followed by the demolition of the stadium. The new UEFA Category 4 venue was to offer 30,500 seats on the two-story stands. This included 150 wheelchair-accessible spaces plus 150 for their companions. Furthermore, there should be 150 places for people with other restrictions and 78 places for the companions. The stadium should have the shape of a star, part of the club's coat of arms, and cost 301.77 million RON (around 66.3 million euros ). On March 22, 2015, the last game took place at the Stadionul Ghencea. As of August 29, 2018, it was demolished.

In 2019 a new, simplified draft was published. The star shape was replaced by a rectangular building with an open facade in thin columns, similar to the new SC stadium in Freiburg im Breisgau . It was supposed to speed up construction to get ready for EM 2020. The visitor capacity increased slightly from 30,500 to 31,254. Construction of the publicly financed sports facility began in spring 2019. In October of that year, a significant increase in construction costs became known. Instead of the originally estimated 66,347,523 million euros, they rose to 94,672,020 million euros. The building erected by Constructii Erbasu, Terragaz Construct and Concelexin was nearing completion in June 2020. The roof of the white football arena is covered, the video display boards were hung under the roof and the plastic seats in different colors were mounted on the stands. The interior was still to be completed and the hybrid turf playing field was still missing. It is a soil heating as well as a loading and drainage system maintained. Inside the stadium, there is VIP - boxes give, restaurants, 24 accommodations for players, shops, offices, a gym, a club Museum of Steaua and an area for journalists. There should be 507 parking spaces around the Stadionul Steaua. The names of the Steaua players who won the 1985/86 European Cup are immortalized on the outside of the stadium. The venue is still intended as a training location for the European Football Championship, which has been postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
