Power system Overhead line

Bursaray is the underground system of the western Turkish city of two million and industrial metropolis Bursa . The system consists of two lines that share a trunk line in the east, which branches off into two line routes in the west. The subway was opened for passenger service on April 24, 2002. Your name "Bursaray" is a compound of "Bursa" and "Ray", the Turkish word for rail.

"Stadtbahn" called subway system

The trains run on both lines, completely independent of other rail and road traffic, on separate tracks and in sections in the tunnel as well as without intersections with road traffic. This makes Bursaray a “real” subway system and not a light rail system like in Cologne , for example . Nevertheless, Bursaray is referred to as “Hafif Metro” (German: “Leicht-U-Bahn”), which is commonly referred to in German as the Stadtbahn. This is due to the operation with overhead lines instead of the typical underground power rail for the energy supply, as well as from the vehicles used: These are essentially identical to the trains of the Frankfurt Stadtbahn ; d. In other words, in contrast to the vehicle material of a "real" subway, they are equipped with folding doors and rear-view mirrors, brake lights and direction indicators, which theoretically - as in Frankfurt - would also allow their use in tram operation mixed with road traffic.

operator

The metro is operated by Burulaş . The name is derived from "Bursa Ulaşım" - also "Bursa traffic" - a public company that is tied to the local administration of the city administration of Bursa, which is subordinate to the elected city council .

Vehicles and technology

Class B-2010 train
Class B80 train

48 vehicles of the B80 series from Siemens and 30 Flexity Swift (B-2010) vehicles from Bombardier (built in Bautzen ) are used. The latter are approximately 60% identical to the Frankfurt U5 railcars . All vehicles are fully air-conditioned, although the Siemens vehicles were retrofitted with passenger compartment air-conditioning systems only later. On Line 1, four-car trains are used, while on the less busy Line 2, only three-car trains are used. Burulaş also bought 44 Düwag SG2s from the operator RET in Rotterdam . 25 vehicles will be used and the other 19 will serve as spare parts donors.

The driving voltage is 1.5 kV direct voltage. As a train control system , a is PZB system (PZB-222) of the BBR used from Braunschweig. Siemens developed the automated signaling system and, in cooperation with the Turkish company Tüvasaş, supplied the rolling stock. The track width is, as with all Turkish subway systems (such as in Istanbul , Ankara , Izmir and Adana ) throughout the network standard gauge of 1435 mm. The platforms are 120 meters long and are usually designed as central platforms.

Routes

Bursaray Haritası.svg

Line 2 begins in the east at Kestel station. Line 1 starts further west at Arabayatağı station. The route runs to Gökdere on the surface. The route runs in a tunnel between the Demirtaşpaşa and Merinos stations. In the further west, lines 1 and 2 separate after the Acemler station. Shortly before Acemler and on Line 2 before Nilüfer and on Line 1 before Karaman there are again short tunnel sections. However, a large part of the route is covered on a viaduct . After the junction, line 1 ends after seven stops in Emek and line 2 after eleven stops at the university. At the western end of line 2 there are four more short tunnel sections, with only the Batıkent station in the tunnel.

Planned extensions

It is planned to extend line 1 to the state railway station in the Balat district, which is currently under construction, and line 2 to the Görükle district .

The electronic pre-paid BuKART card also enables the fare to be debited at the ticket locks via sensors when passing or the activation of the cross for monthly tickets.

The underground lines are served from 6 a.m. to midnight. Both lines run every 10 minutes. This means that there is a 5-minute cycle between Acemler and Arabayatağı. After 8 p.m. the offer is slightly reduced.

A west-east crossing of Line 1 from Emek to Arabayatağı takes 38 minutes. Line 2 takes 43 minutes from its western terminus, Üniversite, to Arabayatağı.
