The Houten Stadtbahn was a light rail line in the Dutch city of Houten . From 2001 to 2008 it connected the then new Houten district of Castellum with the Houten train station . The operators were the Dutch state railways .

history

The light rail was opened on January 8, 2001 to open up the new Castellum district in the south of Houten . The entire length of the line ran parallel to the Utrecht – Boxtel line , which was double-tracked when the light rail was in operation. Another stop on the railway line was impossible due to the heavy traffic. In order to upgrade the line to four tracks, the light rail was shut down in 2008, and on December 12, 2010 a new regional train stop was opened in Houten-Castellum.

TW 6000 with the numbers 6016 and 6021 drove on the route , which were taken over by the Hanover city railway . The trams were bought by the Haagsche Tramweg Maatschappij transport company in The Hague and leased to NS. One track was used on each line, the other was kept as a reserve. After the end of the Stadtbahn, No. 6016 was scrapped, 6021, however, came back to Hanover and was finally sold to Budapest in Hungary in 2011 .

The staff of the light rail initially came from Gemeentevervoerbedrijf Utrecht (GVU, municipal transport company Utrecht ) and the HTM, but was later replaced by employees of the state railway.

Tickets

NS tickets to the Houten train station were also valid for a subsequent single trip on the light rail. A return ticket was offered for passengers who only wanted to take the tram.

Due to the integration into the railway tariff , the national Strippenkaart (which was valid until 2009 on all Dutch bus, tram and underground lines, but only to a very limited extent on the railway) was not valid on the route.
