The Protestant city church Brüssow (also: St. Sophia ) is an early Gothic hall church in Brüssow in the Uckermark district in Brandenburg . It belongs to the parish of Brüssow in the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany and can be visited after registration.

History and architecture

The church is a large field stone hall with an undeveloped west tower the width of a ship from the second half of the 13th century. The west gable and the square tower top are made of half-timbered with a pointed helmet in 1836; the building was restored in 1995/1996. The carefully executed structure has a sloping base and a grooved eaves cornice; the brick closures of the former lancet windows, which are partially visible in the north, are probably original, the pointed arches in the south date from the beginning of the 14th century; In the east wall there is a staggered group of three windows in a similar panel (similar to the churches in Bertikow and Jagow), in the gable there are rising brick panels. Two stepped, partly walled pointed arch portals are arranged on the south and north sides. Inside there is a beamed ceiling and a horseshoe gallery from 1836, which were painted in 1936 and provided with verses from the Bible. The pointed arch opening to the tower is walled up.

Furnishing

A wooden pulpit altar with rich acanthus decor was created by Rosenberger from Stettin in 1714; the pulpit is framed by columns and sculptures of Moses and Melchizedek , in the predella there is a communion relief, and in the cartouche-shaped top there is an entombment relief; sculptures of the risen Christ and two angels serve as crowning points. There are passageways and barred chairs on the sides. A wooden Easter chandelier was made in the 18th century. A pewter chalice dates from 1803, and a pewter baptismal font from 1816. Two plates made of the same material were created in the first half of the 19th century. Two bells were cast by Roloff Klassen from Stettin in 1609 and by Johann Friedrich Thiele from Berlin in 1778.

The organ is a work by Johann Gottlieb Heise from 1842 with 18 stops on two manuals and a pedal , which was restored in 2013 by the company Alexander Schuke Potsdam Orgelbau .
