City church Dippoldiswalde
The town church of St. Marien and Laurentius is a listed , Evangelical Lutheran church in Dippoldiswalde and is located in the urban area between the market and the castle .
History and description
Two stone church buildings are known from the founding time of Dippoldiswalde (first documented mention in 1218), the Nikolaikirche in Waldhufendorf in the Weißeritzaue and the Marienkirche in the Oberstadt (mining settlement) above the Weißeritz .
The first building of the Marienkirche was a Romanesque basilica , of which only the lower floors of the tower with the main portal of the church have been preserved. After the destruction in the Hussite Wars , the church was rebuilt around 1500 as a Gothic hall church, see the year 1506 above the south portal. The Reformation was introduced in 1541. After the destruction in the Thirty Years War , the church was restored in a simple form, this applies in particular to the interior design and the renewal of the chancel. The new consecration took place in 1638. The painter Samuel Heber from Fürstenwalde painted a simple renaissance painting in white and on the Gothic ceiling vault Green with many flowers (paradise meadow) applied, the windows and doors are highlighted in color. The tower was completed with a baroque tower top in 1686 by Wolf Caspar von Klengel .
In the 17th and 18th centuries, numerous galleries were built into the church interior and provided with pictures. On the "Ratsherrenempore" (lower gallery on the north side) the pictures and sayings from the Bible indicate the duties of the authorities towards the common people (advocacy for justice, poor relief and the well-being of the city), on the gallery above there are pictures from the Old Testament, e.g. B. the Tower of Babel .
organ
The organ from 1864 is the work of the Dippoldiswald master organ builder Karl Traugott Stöckel . The restoration of the organ was completed by the Jehmlich / Dresden company in autumn 2015.
