The Stadtkirche Naunhof is a Protestant church building of the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Saxony in Naunhof near Leipzig in the Leipzig district .

history

The year the city church in Naunhof near Leipzig was built has so far not been precisely determined by documentary evidence or by archaeological findings. Today, however, it can be considered certain that the church is much older than previously assumed. For a stone that could be recovered from the southern wall of the cemetery and that probably served as a column capital in a tower window, experts refer to parallels from the end of the first millennium. From this first church building is z. B. the lower part of the tower has been preserved.

Today's nave including the chancel was probably built around 1500 (after the demolition of older components). In 1581 the monument to Georg Rudolf von Ponickau was erected in the church. On December 31, 1716, the Naunhofer church burned down and lost all wooden furnishings as well as the vault of the nave. By 1719 the church roof could be rebuilt with a new coffered ceiling . In 1724 the interior of the church was furnished in the baroque style by installing the galleries and completing the pulpit altar; the picturesque design of that time has been restored since 1995. In 1733 the memorial for pastor Johann Georg Schöne was erected in the church. The wooden font was built around 1810 and was restored in 1996. In the years 1896 to 1901, the lead glass windows were created and installed in the chancel, which were restored in 1994. In 1996 the church was painted in the Baroque style from 1724.

Support association

The Friends' Association Ladegastorgel Naunhof is significantly involved in the organization and realization of concerts in the Naunhof Church. It was founded in 2004, originally to enable the restoration of the Ladegast organ. This was achieved in September 2011, when the instrument was faithfully restored to the sound power and quality of 1882. Since then, the association has been concerned with the long-term promotion of church music in Naunhof.

In 1882 the Friedrich Ladegast company (Weißenfels) built a new two-manual organ with 21 registers . This is one of only 200 instruments made by the famous master organ builder worldwide and one of three organs in the Leipzig region. In 1950 the organ was comprehensively rebuilt, combined with a change in disposition according to the baroque ideal of sound, carried out by the Jehmlich Orgelbau company (Dresden). This changed the Ladegast sound image enormously. In 2008, the Wegscheider organ workshop began restoring the Ladegast organ and restoring the original layout from 1882. For this purpose, committed Naunhofer citizens founded a support association and set up an organ commission, which also included the Gewandhaus organist Michael Schönheit and the then cantor Marcus Friedrich. Over the years, more than 100,000 euros in donations have been collected through concerts and events. The Thomanerchor Leipzig also performed at benefit concerts in the city church .

  5. Frank Pfeifer: Cantor Espen Melbö leaves Naunhof - Anyone who talks about church music in Naunhof at the moment uses minor rather than major tones. Cantor Espen Melbö leaves the city, which makes his fans sad. There is a man who sets the tone, at the organ and in personal interaction. It will be officially adopted on Sunday. But he does not let the line to Naunhof be completely severed. , Leipziger Volkszeitung online, February 24, 2017, accessed on August 26, 2018

The members of these days unanimously elected Ina Heintzschel, who has headed them since 2013, as boss for the next two years. It will be a particular challenge for them and their fellow campaigners to continue to support church music after the Norwegian cantor Espen Melbö has left. , Leipziger Volkszeitung, online, March 7, 2017, accessed on September 4, 2017
