The city ​​museum "Alte Hofmühle" in Hollabrunn is housed in a listed former manor house from the 16th century, which was used as a mill until the 20th century. The conversion into a museum took place in the 1970s. Today there is a permanent exhibition on the art and culture of the Hollabrunn district as well as various special exhibitions.

History and organization

The building was used as a mill until around 1928 . Originally it served as the seat of the Lords of Oberhollabrunn , later it came to the ministerial of Sonnberg in 1348 . Today it is used as a city ​​museum .

Today's municipal museum was founded in 1903 from private collections. This contains a regional historical collection on the world of work, Habaner ceramics, coins and tools. You can also visit permanent exhibitions.

The municipality of Hollabrunn acts as the legal entity. The Hollabrunn Museum Association is responsible for the organization .

architecture

The old court mill consists of a two-storey main building and a farm building and an outer wall forms a square inner courtyard. In this there is a round arch portal with fighters and volute wedge stone. The year 1614 is written above the small door next to the gate. Other elements include the crooked roof , beveled window frames, and rectangular doors with relief friezes in the lintels. The wooden beam ceiling from the 17th century was extended with wooden beams from Sonnberg Castle .

In the inner courtyard there is a wayside shrine that was moved here from Maria Roggendorf in 1974 . The wayside shrine is composed of a pillar with a square top and projecting entablature . It bears a weathered donor inscription with the numbers 166. The reliefs on the shaft contain tools of the passion . On the top there is St. Roch , St. Sebastian , the Pietà and two bishops.

The museum building is a listed building .

Permanent exhibition

On the upper floor of the building there is a permanent exhibition on the subject of "100 Years of the City of Hollabrunn". You will also find information on the subjects of “ Refugee Camps - Military Camps” and “25 Years of New Archeology ”.
