Stalpersia orientalis is the type species of the genus Stalpersia that in the family of ear spoon Stache Ling relatives , which was placed (Auriscalpiaceae) to the Täublingsartigen belongs. The fungus is similar to the counting mushrooms ,but differs in the wrinkled, almost meruloid hymenophore , the lack of "hat skin" and the lack of brown pigments. The species wascollectedon Russia's southeastern Pacific coast and was onlydescribedby Erast Parmasto in 2001.

Generic characteristics

The irregular, hat-shaped, semicircular or fan-like ( flabelliform ) fruit bodies are freshly whitish, thin and fleshy-membranous. Dry fruit bodies are almost horn-like. The surface is bare or slightly flaky. An actual Pileipellis is missing. The hymenophore has a radiant, flat-wrinkled structure or is almost meruloid (pitted folds). The hyphae system is monomitic. The buckle-bearing generative hyphae are thin-walled and not inflated. In the trama one finds both gloeoplere hyphae and gloeocystidae , which have a yellowish, granular content. The four-pore basidia are sub utriform (somewhat udder-shaped or sack-shaped) and the ellipsoidal and strongly amyloid basidiospores are ornamented with spines and have a large apiculus . The spore powder is white.

features

The whitish to cream-colored fruit bodies have an irregularly shaped, 2–5 cm wide and thin-fleshed cap, which can be semicircular, irregularly fan-shaped (flabelliform) or round and short-stalked or dimidiate (sessile and semicircular appearing). Dried fruit bodies are slightly yellowish. The consistency is watery-soft, fleshy-membrane-like or almost cartilaginous and dry, almost horn-like. The stem, if present, is up to 2 cm long and 5–10 mm wide and wears one to three hats. The surface of the hat is uneven, smooth or slightly flaky; there is no actual Pileipellis. The brim of the hat is slightly serrated or lobed. The hymenium is radiantly flat-fold, wrinkled or merulioid and white or cream-colored. The meat smells slightly of flour or is odorless.

The thin-walled, generative hyphae are tightly arranged radially and wear buckles. They become 3.5–6 µm wide and are only slightly branched. The likewise thin-walled, gloeoplere hyphae are slightly twisted, 4–6 µm thick and have a yellowish, granular content. Some form 40–90 µm long and 8–12 µm wide Tramal -Gloeozystiden. The hyphae in the subhymenium are tightly interwoven and very thin-walled. In the hymenium one finds embedded, blunt, club-shaped gloeocystids, which measure 30–50 × 8–12 µm. The basidia are slightly utriform and four-pore. They measure 35–40 × 6–8 (–10) µm and have 4–6 µm long sterigms . The slightly thick-walled and amyloid spores are broadly ellipsoidal or almost tear-shaped. They measure 5.5–6.8 × 4.0–4.8 (-5) µm and have a large, 1–1.5 µm long apiculus. The spore ornament is prickly, the strongly amyloid, conical spines are 0.5–1 µm high. The Q value (quotient of spore length and width) is between 1.36 and 1.4.

Ecology and diffusion

The finds described come from the Sichote-Alin nature reserve , which is located in the Primorye region on Russia's southern Pacific coast. The holotype grew on the litter layer of a fir forest, a second specimen was found on rotten wood in an alluvial forest. According to E. Parmasto, the species may be a mycorrhizal fungus that is able to develop in the litter layer.

Systematics

E. Parmasto chose the generic name to honor the Dutch mycologist Joost A. Stalpers , who is among other things the author of a Hericiales monograph. The type epithet "orientalis" means east and refers to the occurrence of the fungus on Russia's southeastern Pacific coast.

Due to its unique combination of characteristics, the genus differs from all other genus of the deafblings. However, some features resemble those of the counting ( Lentinellus ). This is probably the reason that the genus is placed in the family of the ear spoon thorn relatives . There is no molecular biological confirmation of a relationship. The main differences between the counting and the genus Stalpersia are the lack of brownish pigments in Statpersia and the different expression of the hymenophore. Counters have lamellae, while Stalpersia has a wrinkled to almost meruloid hymenophore. In addition, the hat at Stalpersia has no (clearly formed) Pileipellis.
