Stampede is an English hard rock and new wave of British heavy metal band from London that was founded in 1981, split up in 1984 and reunited in 2009.
history
The band was founded towards the end of 1981 by singer Reuben (who previously worked for Lionheart for a short time ) and guitarist Laurence Archer, after they had separated from their previous band Wild Horses . A short time later, Frank Noon, who had previously also worked for Wild Horses, joined the band. Alan Nelson joined the band as keyboard player, who had previously played in the band Lautrec, in which Reuben and Laurence Archer were previously active. The line-up was completed by bassist Colin Bond. The first smaller appearances followed in various clubs, which allowed the band to increase its popularity. In early 1982, the band recorded the first songs, which allowed the band to get the attention of Tommy Vance of the BBC . Vance offered the group an appearance on the Friday Rock Show , which aired on BBC 1 on May 28th . At the gig, the band played four of their songs, Photographs , Moving On , The Other Side and Shadows of the Night . This was followed by another appearance on Capital Radio together with Girlschool , and an appearance at the Mildenhall Rock Festival, where drummer Noon had been replaced by Eddie Parsons. Subsequently, Polydor became aware of the band and signed them. This was followed by a first single called Days of Wine and Rose , on the 7 ″ version, in addition to the title song, the song Photographs was included. The 12 ″ version also contained the songs Moving On , which was previously heard in a shorter version on the compilation Steel Crazy , and Missing You . The single came out while the band was playing with Praying Mantis , Diamond Head and Budgie at the Reading Festival . Polydor then released a live album called The Official Bootleg , which consisted of recordings of performances at Reading Festival and Mildenhall Rock Festival. In early 1983, the band went into the studio to record their debut album. At the same time, the band also went along with Gary Moore on tour in the UK . Alan Nelson had also left the band and was replaced by Magnum keyboardist Mark Stanway. The album was released in 1983 under the name Hurricane Town . On the album, the band consisted of bassist Colin Bond, drummer Eddie Parsons, guitarist Laurence Archer, keyboardist, Mark Stanway and singer Reuben Archer. In 1984 the group disbanded.
In 2009 the band got together again and in 2011 released the second album A Sudden Impulse on Grind That Ax Records and Rock Candy Records .
style
The band played on their debut album Hurricane Town Hard Rock comparable to the music of UFO and Deep Purple , whereby the group can also be assigned to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The second album A Sudden Impulse is comparable to the works of Aerosmith , with influences from bands like Boston , Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company can be heard.
