Stanford Clarke "Stan" Seidel (born October 4, 1951 in St. Louis , Missouri , † July 14, 2000 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American screenwriter .

Life

Stan Seidel grew up in St. Louis and took part in a writing program at New York University in the early 1980s , where he met the love of his life and later wife, the film producer Susan Cartsonis . In the mid-1980s they both moved to Hollywood, where they got a job at 20th Century Fox and he was able to sell his first script in 1985, which was never produced. This was followed by television scripts for series such as Alles totally normal - Die Bilderbuchfamilie and Harlem Hip Hop , before Seidel decided at the end of the 1990s not to follow the guidelines of the film studios for the first time and to write down his own ideas. So he started to write his own St. Louis trilogy, the first part of which was A Night at McCool’s , which is also dedicated to him in the credits of the film. However, he was never able to finish the remaining parts because he died before the film was released. He could only see the rough cut of the film.

Seidel suffered from Crohn's disease and had to take liquid food as early as 1985 while he slept at night. He died in a hospital in Los Angeles. However, he did not die directly from Crohn's disease, but from bacterial contamination that he acquired through dirty catheters.
