Stanisława Kalus

Stanisława Kalus (born May 9, 1943 in Mielec as Stanisława Mydlarczyk ) is a Polish lawyer and former professor at the University of Katowice .

Life

On his father's side, Kalus comes from a family of lawyers that includes a kk notary, public prosecutors and Michał Grażyński . She herself grew up in Katowice and attended the lyceum there . From 1960 she studied law at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow . In 1965 she acquired the title of Magistra iuris with her thesis The Structure and Competencies of the English Parliament on the Basis of the Laws at the Time of the Puritan Revolution and the Civil War 1628–1660 . She then began training as a judge at the Katowice Voivodeship Court, which she successfully completed two years later. At the same time she worked on her dissertation at the University of Krakow under the supervision of Leslaw Pauli . In 1968 she moved to the chair of Mieczysław Sośniak at the University of Katowice. In 1975, she completed her doctorate there. iur. with a thesis on international labor law. In the 1980s she joined Solidarność . In 1989 Kalus successfully completed his habilitation. The work produced on this (see below) represents the first scientific contribution to the problem of foster care in Poland.

In 1990, after the courts of appeal were re-established, she was appointed judge at the Katowice Court of Appeal. She held this position until 2008. She was awarded the Bene et Merentibus Iustitiae medal for her work in the judicial service . At the same time she worked as a lecturer at the University of Katowice. Since 2004 she has held the chair in civil procedural law at the University of Katowice.

Stanisława Kalus has been married to the civil engineer Andrzej Kalus since 1967. The two daughters Anna and Magdalena (born 1969 and 1972) sprang from this marriage.

Works and works (selection)

Kalus' research focuses on international private law, especially international labor law and international law of obligations, as well as general and international family law. From 1992 Kalus was also actively involved in the establishment of market economy institutes in Poland by getting involved in real estate valuation and its legal basis, supported by her husband. As an advisory expert in the Sejm , Kalus was actively involved in the drafting of numerous Polish laws, such as the revision of the Polish Civil Code in 1990. She is also the co-editor of a major commentary on the Polish Family and Guardianship Code .
