Stanislav Souček (born May 7, 1870 in Náchod , Austria-Hungary , † December 30, 1935 in Brno , Czechoslovakia ) was a Czech philologist , bohemist and literary historian .

Life

Stanislav Souček attended grammar school in Rychnov nad Kněžnou from 1881 to 1888 . He then studied Classical Philology and Bohemian Studies at Charles University in Prague until 1894 . For a while he studied at the University of Vienna , where he passed the examination for teaching at secondary schools in Latin and Greek in 1894. During his studies he taught as a temporary teacher in Hronov , after his examination until 1897 at the Slavic Gymnasium in Olomouc , then until 1900 at the Czech Gymnasium in Königinhof and then at the Czech Gymnasium in Altbrünn . 1905 received his doctorate at the Charles University on František Matouš Klácel to the doctor of philology. In 1920 he was appointed full professor of Czech language and literature at the Masaryk University in Brno . In 1922/23 he was Dean of the Philosophical Faculty, in 1931/32 he held the office of Rector of the University .

Works (selection)

Souček's main work on Johann Amos Comenius did not appear until after his death. In addition, he dealt with the works of the philosopher Tomáš Štítný ze Štítného and the writer Jan Neruda . In his other monographs he dealt with the history of folk songs and the baroque theater .
