Stantscho Stantschew (cyclist)

Stantscho Stantschew ( Bulgarian Станчо Станчев ; born January 31, 1965 in Kazanlak ) is a former Bulgarian cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Stanchew started both on the road and in track races. As an amateur, he was a member of the CSKA Sofia Army Sports Club. With his club's four-way four, he won the Bulgarian team pursuit championship in 1987 . He was also able to secure the title in the singles pursuit that year. In the 1980s he started several times in the GDR for the races in the Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle in Berlin , where he was also able to win races in the points race against the GDR elite. He was at the start of the International Peace Tour four times , in 1990 he achieved his best result in the tour with 25th place. He achieved stage victories in the Tour of Greece and Bulgaria in 1988 and the Tour of Belgium in 1991.

In 1992 he became a professional driver in a Portuguese team. In his first year as a professional driver, he was able to win the classification for the best sprinter in the Tour of Portugal , a success that he was able to repeat a year later. Overall, he achieved eighteen wins as a professional. He stayed professional in Portugal until 1997 and ended his career there.
