The Star is a RoRo -Fährschiff the ferry operator Tallink . It is used on the Baltic Sea and has been classified by Bureau Veritas with ice class 1A ("difficult ice conditions"). With a top speed of 27.5 knots , the Star is one of the fastest passenger ferries in the world. It is registered in Estonia and its home port is Tallinn .
history
The Star was on 30 May 2006 with the hull number 1356 on the Finnish shipyard Aker Yards Finn in Helsinki to set keel . On November 23, 2006, the launching and christening by the wife of the mayor of Helsinki Jaana Pajunen took place. The handover of the ship was postponed by a week due to a problem with the diesel engines and took place on April 10, 2007. Since April 12, 2007 the Star has been commuting several times a day between Tallinn (Estonia) and Helsinki (Finland) on the Baltic Sea. The journey time is around two hours.
From the end of March to April 19, 2020, the ferry was used on the route Sassnitz-Mukran ( Rügen / Germany) - Paldiski (Estonia) due to the COVID-19 pandemic , after problems arose on the land connection at the borders of Poland was.
Furnishing
The Star can accommodate up to 2080 passengers. It has a total of 131 passenger cabins with toilet and shower. These are located on decks 8 and 9 in the stern of the ship. Two cabins are adapted for the disabled. The “Business Lounge” for 120 passengers, who have priority when leaving the ship with their own car, is located on deck 7. The ferry can carry 450 cars on 2000 lane meters .
After the Megastar went into service , the Star received a second ramp.
