Starkenbach is a scattered settlement in the political community of Wildhaus-Alt St. Johann in Ober Toggenburg in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. The area is dominated by agriculture. Starkenbach is accessible by the main road that crosses the entire Obertoggenburg and the Postbus line Wildhaus - Nesslau - Neu St. Johann - Wattwil . The Leistbach flows through the village and flows into the Thur north of the settlement . There are two restaurants in Starkenbach.
The Selunbahn , a small, open cable car ("Kistenbahn") connects the village with the Alp Selun. A road with a driving ban connects Starkenbach with Amden via the Vorder Höhi . This had gained in importance in 1973/74 when the approach from Weesen to Amden was endangered due to an impending rock fall.

Above Starkenbach, near Alp Selun, is the Wildenmannlisloch , in which, according to unconfirmed reports, the Seluner is said to have lived for a while .
