Staryje Atagi ( Russian Старые Атаги ; Chechen Йоккха-Атагӏа ) is a village (selo) with 10,884 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in the Russian republic of Chechnya , in the North Caucasus federal district . The village is located about 20 kilometers from Grozny , on the western bank of the Argun River , on the other side is Novyye Atagi .
The place was called Predgornoje from 1944 to 1957 . From April 20, 1935 to 1956, it was the administrative seat of a Rajon , which was initially named Staro-Ataginski rajon after the place , shortened to Ataginski rajon in 1939 and renamed Predgornenski rajon on April 29, 1944 (literally "Vorgebirgs-Rajon").
