Stathis Gourgouris

Stathis Gourgouris ( Greek Στάθης Γουργουρής , * 1958 in Los Angeles ) is a Greek-American comparator , neo-Greekist and poet .

Life

Gourgouris was born in Los Angeles, but grew up in Athens . He studied Comparative Literature and Modern Greek at the University of California, Los Angeles , where he received his Ph.D. Since then he has taught at Columbia University , New York . He has also held visiting professorships at Princeton University , Yale University , UCLA and the National Technical University of Athens . In addition to his literary writings on the Greek Enlightenment and on the formation of the Greek nation state and on literary theory , he has published four volumes of poems in the modern Greek language.

His main focus areas are literary theory, modernist poetics , the Enlightenment, pre-Socratic philosophy and contemporary modern Greek poetry . In addition, he also deals with experimental music .
