The reservoir Kohlstattbrunnenbach (also called reservoir Oberdigisheim ) is a flood retention basin and one of the highest reservoirs in Baden-Württemberg at 795 m above sea level . It dams the Kohlstattbrunnenbach and is located entirely in the area of the city of Meßstetten in the Zollernalb district . The lake lies on the plateau of the Großer Heuberg between the Messstetten district of Oberdigisheim and the neighboring municipality of Obernheim .
At the end of the 1970s the decision was made to build the flood retention basin; on June 26, 1983 the official inauguration of the 3.5 million DM building took place. The operator is the city of Meßstetten.
The reservoir is constantly partially dammed. With permanent congestion, the water surface is around 3.8 hectares; it can grow to around 7.6 hectares during floods. In the case of permanent traffic jams, the lake contains 88,000 m³ of water and is around 7 m deep at the lowest point, and up to around 12 m in high water.
The reservoir is around 350 m long and around 150 m wide. The shallow water zone is around 2 hectares in size.
In addition to flood protection , the reservoir is also used for local recreation and for sport fishing. Around the lake there are meadows, some of which are wet meadows, heathland with juniper and forest with spruce and beech.
