The Roman Catholic Church of Sainte-Tanche in Lhuître ( Aube department , Grand Est region , France ) is a pilgrimage church that has been classified as a Monument historique since 1862 .

history

The church was built in the 12th century in honor of St. Tanche, a young martyr who died nearby. The crossing tower was restored in its original form after a fire in 1874.

investment

The western transept and the crossing tower are from the Romanesque period . The choir with a 5/8 end was built in the 14th century. The double transept is widespread in Champagne. The three-aisled nave with four bays and portals in the flamboyant style were built in the early 16th century. The south portal has a Pietà from the time it was built. The capitals of the pillars show prophets, a sibyl and a warrior, animals and foliage. The retable of the altar from the early Renaissance around 1535 shows the sculpture of the Passion.

In the apse depiction of the sacrament of the host in grisaille technique from the second quarter of the 16th century and the history of St. Joseph. Other depictions of Christ's childhood (14th century), scenes from the life of St. Nicholas (middle of the 15th century), passion scenes (first quarter of the 16th century), Transfiguration of Christ, around 1535, stained glass of the Beatitudes from the same period. To the right of the apse Virgo lactans and panels on the martyrdom of John the Baptist, around 1480.
