Stefan Duppel

Stefan Duppel (born October 10, 1962 in Tübingen ) is a German diplomat .

Life

Duppel studied law and then entered the foreign service . In 1993 he became a consultant for economic relations with Eastern Europe in the Foreign Office , after which he worked from 1994 to 1997 in the political department of the German Embassy in Madrid . In 1997 he joined the Foreign Office in the office of the Commissioner for Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid. In 2001 he went to the German Embassy in Buenos Aires as a cultural attaché . Subsequently, Duppel worked again in the Federal Foreign Office from 2005 to 2009, this time as Deputy Head of the Strategy and Planning Department for Foreign Cultural Policy and Communication. In 2009 he became permanent representative and head of the economic department at the German Embassy in Bangkok . From 2011 to 2015 Duppel headed the office of the former Federal President at the Office of the Federal President in Berlin . D. Richard von Weizsäcker . He then took over the head of the department for the Goethe Institute and the Institute for Foreign Relations at the Foreign Office . From 2016 to 2019 Duppel was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ulaanbaatar , Mongolia . In August 2019 he took up his post as German ambassador in La Paz ( Bolivia ).

He is married to Spanish lawyer and author Elena Alonso Frayle and has two children.
