Stefan Garber (born March 19, 1955 ) is a German lawyer and former board member for infrastructure at Deutsche Bahn .

From April 2000 he worked at DB, initially in the group management as head of "central staff". In June 2000 he was appointed to the management board of DB Netz , where he was responsible for human resources. In August 2002 Garber became “General Representative Purchasing”. From May 2003 to March 2005 he was “General Representative for Technology and Procurement” and was thus responsible for corporate purchasing, DB Systemtechnik , maglev, quality and environmental protection.

With effect from April 1, 2005, Stefan Garber was appointed to the group board of Deutsche Bahn AG . The “Infrastructure and Services” board area he was responsible for comprised the former divisions Track (DB Netz AG), Passenger Stations ( DB Station & Service AG ), Services (DB Systel, DB Services Technical Services, DB Services Real Estate, etc.) as well as the companies DB Energie and DB project construction .

After the founding of DB Mobility Logistics AG , the services division was transferred to it in June 2008 and has been responsible for human resources and services since then .

As part of Deutsche Bahn's decision on the new corporate structure, the service business areas were transferred to DB Mobility Logistics AG on June 2, 2008 . As Group Board Member “Infrastructure”, Stefan Garber was responsible for the corporate development of the railway infrastructure and the integrated management of the DB Netze Track , DB Netze Passenger Stations , DB Netze Energy and the DB Netze ProjektBau service center.

By resolution of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn on December 9, 2009, Garber was released from his duties on January 1, 2010. Different views on the implementation of the Public Corporate Governance Code were given as the background . Volker Kefer initially took over his duties . According to media reports, Garber was unable to adequately explain the cost increases in the major Stuttgart 21 project . The supervisory board has therefore unanimously voted in favor of releasing him from his duties. According to other information, the supervisory board released him due to differences over corporate governance rules. Garber was initially to remain employed by the company for the agreed basic salary without any function. In March 2010 Garber left the company for a severance payment of 1.85 million euros. His contract would have run until May 2013. Furthermore, personal differences between him and the new railway boss Rüdiger Grube were named as the reason for Garber's dismissal.
